Eagle Creek, Thursday March 27, 2003
I saw the forecast yesterday and couldn't resist. I had all my gear packed for spring break in Gulf Shores (depart tomorrow) ... but threw a board (Evolution 112) in my van before I went to work. The forecasts and reports of 20 mph SSE drew me to abandon my work after my last meeting and a few emails (~3:40). Alward had seen my van with equipment and left a phone message indicating he was "packing" and planned to go to EO about the same time as me.

I got there around 4:10, rusty at rigging so on the water maybe 4:40. Mike had shown by then, along with a retired Annapolis grad, Navy pilot (carrier-type) ... talking about sailing cats and interested in windsurfers. I sailed 5.7 MPR ... as I rigged the EC Airport number reported 17 gusting 27. By the time I was on the water it was something less. I was powered on some of the gusts ... not overpowered enough to ever try a jibe. Was getting my tacks dry ... mostly.

Water is cold but not evil. Warming fast I believe.

Felt great to be on a board !! It felt great to plane a bit. It even felt good to schlog! You should all try it (except maybe the schlog part) soon.

Alward rigged but forgot a screw appropriate to his new board's fin so was thwarted. But I'm happy he can at least show now ... vs last year.

Indy Car Mike showed up as we derigged. Said 'hi' and had fast food dinner on a picnic table.

Its great to start the new season.

Nobody has sailed Eagle Ocean yet this year, but Paul Rybarczyk said there were guys sailing in 10-20 mph winds on Clinton last weekend.

After one of the snowiest winters in Indy history, Eagle Ocean has finally thawed out and is ready for shredding. Let the season begin! (Now all we need is some wind...)
